Free Etching Workshop - Casa do Celeiro, Colares
6 students (full house) learned the technique of hardground (águaforte) starting from preparing zinc plates to printing.  It went very well and all learned the basics of this age old technique.  I would be happy to offer more workshops to groups at a reduced rate and could  include accommodation for those coming from afar.  Have a look at the work below and thanks everyone for participating in this jolly event! Free Etching Workshop

Teacher -  Mary St.George

Etching is a 500 year old medium involving drawing on copper or zinc plates, ‘etching’ them(acid), and printing from them on a press.  Acid and non-acid techniques are taught including: drypoint(non-acid), hard ground, aquatinting and sugar lift among others(acid).  It is an incredibly varied medium where ‘mistakes’ lead one to new and surprising ideas and results.  This free workshop is aimed at teaching one or two simple techniques for beginners.

Mary St.George is an experienced art teacher and artist who runs painting and etching workshops in her studio in Colares. 

Time/Day:  10am – 1pm / Proposed Dates:  Feb 3, 10 or 17 / price of copper/zinc plates not included
