Announcing the next Create Portugal exhibition: Sons Visuais
Sons Visuais is an exhibition of contemporary painting, photography, printmaking, collage and drawing.
All the works are based on music with each artist creating visual representations of a heard experience.
Music and sounds of all kinds and styles are the sources of inspiration for this wide-ranging exhibition.
There is also an "Opera panel " featuring a piece of Art made by all the artists exhibiting in Sons Visuais.
The exhibition shows the work of 14 artists of various nationalities, who belong to the Create Portugal network.
The art will be displayed in the Cultural Centre and the municipal library of Ferreira do Zêzere from the 24th July to the 2nd August.

Centro Cultural do Fereira do Zezere
Introduction to Charcoal ~ Workshop by Rebecca R F Ferreira
I recently gave a workshop introducing drawing with charcoal at Heather Taylor´s atelier in Estoril.
We explored drawing with different types of charcoal and manipulating it with many different tools: rubbers, cloth, brushes, scalpels. We explored using a combination of these to create textures, light and dark, reflection and mark-making. We drew from life and also practised letting our intuition take control of our drawing, in an exercise of abstract drawing.
An enjoyable day was had by all!

Free Etching Workshop - Casa do Celeiro, Colares
6 students (full house) learned the technique of hardground (águaforte) starting from preparing zinc plates to printing. It went very well and all learned the basics of this age old technique. I would be happy to offer more workshops to groups at a reduced rate and could include accommodation for those coming from afar. Have a look at the work below and thanks everyone for participating in this jolly event! Mary

Free Etching Workshop
Teacher - Mary St.George
Etching is a 500 year old medium involving drawing on copper or zinc plates, ‘etching’ them(acid), and printing from them on a press. Acid and non-acid techniques are taught including: drypoint(non-acid), hard ground, aquatinting and sugar lift among others(acid). It is an incredibly varied medium where ‘mistakes’ lead one to new and surprising ideas and results. This free workshop is aimed at teaching one or two simple techniques for beginners.
Mary St.George is an experienced art teacher and artist who runs painting
and etching workshops in her studio in Colares.
